Villa Fleur de Lys is an 8-bedroom, friendly, family-owned hotel on the south east coast of Zanzibar. In its elevated position, it overlooks the barrier reef and a wide expanse of the blue Indian Ocean. The views are simply breathtaking.
Villa Fleur de Lys is a perfect retreat for guests who prefer privacy, quiet and a relaxed atmosphere. It is secluded (70km from Stone Town), cosy and personal, rather than an impersonal hotel experience.You could take one or two rooms, or even the whole villa.
During the day, you can watch the local boats glide by and the fisher-women gather the daily catch. At night you can sit under a canopy of bright stars. At high tide, the sea splashes against the cliff edge of the garden and the steps and you may sit at the hotels edge on the local seat (baraza) and allow yourself to be mesmerised by the waves and ocean breeze.

The Beach Front Villa
The Villa was built by positioning all the bedrooms with maximum ocean views. The view of the spectacular sunrise from the bedrooms and balconies is enhanced by large floor to ceiling windows. The Villa on the ocean side is enhanced by majestic African wood balconies. At low tide private steps from the hotel lead directly to our small coral and sandy natural beach. From here, you may walk 300m to a long unspoilt palm-fringed white sandy beach where swimming is possible at low or high tide. Whether you rent a room or the full Villa, come and share the “Simply Breath Taking” environment with us!

We are located on the South East coast of Zanzibar between the villages of Makunduchi and Jambiani a 70km/ 75 min drive.
A 7-seat vehicle costs approx. 50$ for an airport or ferry transfer. We can also arrange pick up from anywhere on the island.
Yes, all our bedrooms have AC units and floor fans.
We have the fastest Wifi connection available on Zanzibar and it is free of charge and accessible in all rooms and shared areas of the hotel.
Electricity on Zanzibar is 220-240V AC, 50 Hz. Plugs are UK type and we have a number of adaptors for guest use.
Power cuts are a regular occurrence in Zanzibar but we do have a generator.
Zanzibar enjoys a tropical climate with temperatures averaging 25°C during the summer months June to October which are least humid with cool evening breezes. November to March is also beautiful and sunny, but hotter and more humid with average daily temperatures of 30°C. April and May are often referred to as the ‘Rainy Season’ but in fact there is usually much more sunshine than rain with heavy downpours lasting only an hour or so. This is Zanzibar’s quiet season offering a chance to enjoy the island with less visitors!
The Indian Ocean which surrounds Zanzibar is wonderfully warm all year around, averaging about 27° C.
Check in is from 2pm and check out 11am. We will do our best to accommodate earlier check in when possible and later check out may be available for a fee. Let us know in advance if you are checking in after 9pm and require food. (The kitchen normally closes at 9pm).
Our restaurant kitchen is open from breakfast at 7am to 9pm. You may order snacks and meals a la carte throughout the day. Our half or full board options offer a delicious choice of 3 course lunch and/ or dinner from our daily changing menus featuring Swahili influenced dishes. We also offer fantastic Swahili style BBQ buffets.
