International Film Festival

Held in Stone town, this annual Film fair known as the Zanzibar International Film Festival (ZIFF), or Festival of the Dhow Countries.

The 8-day festival is multi-disciplinary arts and cultural festival with workshops, screenings of the best local and international cinema and evenings of musical concerts including a Gala each evening.

Sauti za Busara Festival
Stone Town - February
Admission: approx. USD 80 for 3 days

This African music festival, held every year in Stone Town is centred in the Old Fort (Ngome Kongwe), with fringe events taking place at the same time, including a carnival street parade (Beni).

Come and dance along at one of the largest music festivals in East Africa, with several hundreds of artists participating each year, which showcases a diverse and dynamic programme of exclusively African music.

Zanzibar Cultural Day
Zanzibar - July
Admission: Free

This annual one-day Swahili cultural celebration includes traditional Ngoma dances, travelling shows, performances, taraab music, artistic and photographic exhibitions, and local art and handicrafts.

It attracts many participants from neighbouring countries such as Mozambique, Kenya, Comoros, but also from other countries such as Germany, China, India, etc.

Jahazi Festival
Zanzibar - September
Admission:

USD 20 per evening

Jahazi is a non-profit organisation that is dedicated to inspiring youth, learning and education, through literature and music. For four days the festival attracts Tanzanian, East African and international writers who discuss a wide range of topics through a combination of talks, workshops, forums, school visits and literary dinners. Sunsets and evenings are taken over by jazz concerts showcasing local and emerging musicians, as well as hosting internationally acclaimed artists and bands.
